Stop chasing bookkeeping clients for bank statements
For solo and small practices. Pull first. Chase only what’s left.
If your month-end still starts with “Can you send statements?”, the bottleneck usually isn’t motivation — it’s access design. Most banks won’t let software override their permissions. So the winning pattern is: you pull what you can, and clients only send what you truly can’t reach.
Plan A — pull
- Onboarding video call: set QBO/Xero feeds and/or read-only bank access on screen
- Account inventory: one row per bank/CC/loan with access status
- Mark pullable accounts N/A for chase
Plan B — phased chase
- Day 0: only accounts you can’t pull + payroll/access confirmations
- Day 3 / 7 / 10: only unchecked line items, named with period
- Never re-send the full 12-item bomb
- Close gate: billable work starts when every required line is Received or N/A
